Trials of Olympus: Cowriting

Cowriting this was a joy. We each took a character and wrote a chapter before passing it back. I remember being so excited to jump in and read Charlee's newest chapter. We'd discuss the basics of how we wanted the story to go, but a lot of it came as a surprise as we went. There were two imaginations involved--two wells of inspiration that we swam in and this book was the result. It only really took us about two weeks to write because we were so excited. Editing was much more difficult. Partially because every edit had to be checked with the other person and partially because there was a long gap between us finishing the first draft and editing, so we lost a bit of enthusiasm.

What makes this story special is that it sparkles with the chemistry that me and Charlee share. Our friendship dazzles from every character interaction because that's how we wrote it. It was as natural as texting your bestie. (Does that make it like sexting when you guys write steamier scenes?) Hahah actually kinda. I feel lucky that my best friend also writes. If we didn't write together we'd still talk non-stop. It's so cool to have a project that we brought to life as a team.
We have several more projects that we'd like to take on together but since we're both writers on our own, the amount of time we'd be able to dedicate to our group projects would depend on how much money we could make together compared to individually.

Writing POC: The 5 Major Obstacles You'll Face

When I first became an author, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to represent the African American community the way I'd always wanted to be represented growing up, but in the two years I've been publishing my enthusiasm has waned.  As a teenager, I craved books with Black protagonists--books about magic, romance, and adventure. Unfortunately, the only books with Black protagonists I ever came across back then were about slavery and discrimination. Those books have great value but do little for escapism, especially for a Black teen in rural New Hampshire.  I entered the industry of self-publishing two years ago and I've been lucky to find more success than most new authors. I even managed to land on the USA Today bestseller's list. I dove into the writing community and began networking with successful indie authors and over the course of two years, I've uncovered a slew of obstacles that keep Black characters out of the spotlight.  1. Prepare to Fight If you me...

His appetite is insatiable.  Your choice will determine Charlotte's true love, but choices have consequences.
